• Happy Earth Day!

Today is day 22 of the Health Activist Writer’s Month Challenge and it is also Earth Day. In honor of the day, I took a break from writing and put together a selection of photos from the weekend’s hiking excursions.  No better way to celebrate Earth Day than to be out enjoying the sights it has to offer.  Enjoy! As always, if you like the photos, let me know. 🙂

  • Happy Birthday to Me!

Break out the party hats, noise makers, and glitter coated confetti. Get some diet coke and bacon cupcakes, too.  Today we celebrate my 28th birthday.  Another year with all of you. I’m not going to bore you with some long, emotional and reflective piece about living another year, etc…  I spend enough time doing that on this blog through out the year.  Since today is Wordless Wednesday, I thought I’d share some photos that I shot with my birthday present, instead. I bought myself a Canon EOS Rebel t2i DSLR camera on Friday and spent Sunday evening hiking and snapping photos along the trails around one of the local colleges.  The weather was beautiful and I got some really great…

  • Walk in the Park

April and I made a trip to Indianapolis on Saturday to drop her brother off at the airport and, on the way back to Fort Wayne, we stopped at Falls Park in Pendleton. We got to the park just as a festival was winding down for the day.  And with just enough time to purchase some delectable home baked goodies.  Banana Cake, Zucchini bread, and pumpkin bread.  OH MY GLUCOSE! After checking out a few of the booths that were still open, April and I took a nice little hike along one of the trails.  The weather was great and the scenery was just as beautiful.  Here’s a gallery for your enjoyment. And my blood glucose was at 95 mg/dl…

  • Going the Extra Mile

There is something quite satisfying about accomplishing a goal that you’ve set for yourself. Sometimes, you put a lot of hard work and effort into accomplishing a goal, and when you reach the end you feel great about where things stand, and you’re ready to move onto the next goal.  And other times, you’re just not ready to move on.  You know the outcome will be better if you’re just willing to go the extra mile. Today at the gym, I went the extra mile. When I got on the treadmill at the gym this afternoon, I had only planned on walking a mile.  I was going to do one 20 minute mile, and then move on to the next…

  • The Gym routine

I mentioned in a previous post that I had joined a gym, and had started going a few days a week.  So, today I thought I’d share a little more about that. After consulting with my cardiologist and getting his approval, as well as the required referral for the program I wanted to get into, I joined the Parkview Health and Fitness center near my home.  It’s a great facility located within a mile or so of my place; the staff and trainers are all very nice, and the amenities are pretty nice too.   It’s been a month since I joined, and so far I think I like it, and I can feel a bit of a difference in how…
